Preparing for the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) Redesign

STAAR + MI Write

The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) redesign will be implemented in state summative assessments administered in spring 2023. We’ve compiled a list of the changes and how MI Write is the perfect partner for the new Reading Language Arts (RLA) assessment.

The STAAR redesign includes the following components:
  • Online Testing – State assessments will be administered online to provide more robust accommodations for students with specific learning needs.
  • New Question Types – The STAAR redesign will include the addition of non-multiple-choice questions that are more like the kind teachers ask in class.
  • Cross-curricular Passages – The STAAR redesign will prioritize cross-curricular RLA passages that reference topics students have learned in other classes (e.g. social studies, science, mathematics, fine arts, etc.).
  • Evidence-based Writing – RLA assessments will assess both reading and writing. Students will write in response to a reading selection.
How can MI Write help you prepare for STAAR?

This year, there will be free response and non-multiple-choice portions for all subjects… even math! MI Write offers an engaging, cross-curricular learning environment that strengthens student’s ability to write complex responses. Writing confidence can turn your students into superSTAARS!
